Community

Coaching York gifts time to individuals, organisations and communities.  We support small community groups with few resources, and larger organisations who need teams of coaches.

We are passionate about, and committed to, community coaching. Our members give generously of their time to good causes both as individuals and through projects organised by Coaching York. Our broad membership enables us to form teams of coaches for greater impact.

Learning

Our projects provide opportunities for coaches to develop their skills through innovative coaching practice. Communities benefit from the diverse expertise of coaches who work both in corporate environments or as freelancers.

Every year we deliver a programme of activity for the City of York and beyond as part of the ICF International Coaching Week (ICW). And at least 10% of our commercial fees support our wider work, including community projects and ICW.

Projects and Partnerships

York Independent Business Sector

To support a sector response to Covid-19, a team from Coaching York have set up a partnership with Indie York (York Independent businesses). We have been working with individual small local businesses, the life blood of our streets and high streets.

Our coaches have provided an independent perspective, giving owners the chance to share worries and conerns, address issues that have constantly been returning to the end of their to-do lists, and helping to bring clarity and confidence in the middle of a confusing and stressful season.

Business owners also report acquiring new skills and tehniques and creating new strategies for the future.

For an introduction to the work, see Tom Wright's video.

Refugee Action York

Coaching York are very excited to announce a partnership with Refugee Action York (RAY). RAY works with refugees, asylum seekers and migrants from within and around the City of York.  They provide a safe meeting point where people can seek information and support, learn new skills and languages and form lasting friendships.

Our initial area of help is with the 18-25 age group to provide support into further education, employment and career opportunities.  and support for those wishing to move towards independent living. We are looking to develop this into other areas as our relationship grows.

“RAY is currently with many young refugees from Ukraine and further afield. We are delighted to be working with Coaching York, and using their expertise  to help these young people to better understand the labour market in the UK and to assist them in finding suitable employment. We look forward to and appreciate their input! “

My Future York

We have collaborated with My Future York, an open inquiry working with anyone who wants to get involved in developing new alternative visions for York’s future. This starts with what individual people, families and communities want to do in their lives now and in the next 10, 20 and 30 years.

Teams of CY coaches led coaching walks to help people engage with imagined futures in the Castle Gateway part of the city.   We also piloted social media workshops, in which we coached participants to build inclusive and enjoyable online spaces for discussion.

“Coaching York helped participants in the My Castle Gateway project see how their ideas could shape a future part of the city, and helped us shape our own process of asking the most effective questions,” says My Future York’s Phil Bixby.

York St John University

We have a long-standing relationship with York St John University. They have generously provided Coaching York with meeting space, and our coaches have supported students in future career choices and as part of their intern programme.

Coaching York members are part of a wider team coaching MBA students.

We look forward to continuing involvement with the University, its students, and its research as it continues to provide superb academic offers around coaching and mentoring.
