Coaching for Inclusion is the title of our July event facilitated by Joanne Rule and run by York Coaching Group.
Inclusion/exclusion are important challenges for every sector. This session argues that it is not possible to deliver a wider inclusion/diversity agenda without learning to work in different ways ourselves. Filmed multidisciplinary meetings of health professionals, shows how consultants catch each other’s eyes only and how hard it is for nurses to join the discussion.
Similar processes happen in most organisations and all of us can draw upon our own experiences of feeling excluded. Leaders often exclude unconsciously – as do teams of people at work – coaching helps people to become aware of this and to learn how to hold inclusive meetings and conversations.
Joanne will draw on her experience of shaping an inclusion programme for Macmillan Cancer Support and subsequently integrating inclusive leadership as a core approach in her own leadership coaching. She will share some simple approaches and tools for inclusion.
Joanne Rule describes herself as a leadership coach with a passion for growing new leaders. She a former chief executive with a specialist background in communications/public affairs. Having gained her ILM Level 7 qualification in coaching, Joanne has worked full time as a coach and coach-consultant since 2008, when the charity she led, Cancerbackup, merged with Macmillan Cancer Support.
Joanne was then asked to co-chair the national cancer equality initiative, winner of a civil service diversity and equality award in 2010. In this role, Joanne worked with Macmillan and the wider cancer community on inclusion and values-based change. She is an active member of Coaching York www.healthyconversations.org.uk
